Below is information on helplines and support groups in Umbria for the following (note that most are Italian speaking only): Alcoholics AnonymousThere are at present no English-language Alcoholics Anonymous meetings held in Umbria. There are, however, meetings in Tuscany, the region adjoining Umbria - refer to the AA Europe website for information.

The Italian Alcoholics Anonymous Organisation (Alcolisti Anonimi Italiana) organises meetings throughout Italy.
Other groups for alcohol-related issuesARCAT (Associazione Regionale dei Club degli Alcolisti in Trattamento) is an Italian association for alcoholics in treatment as well as their families. Several groups meet throughout Umbria.
Al-Anon: assistance for family of alcoholicsIn Al-Anon, members share their experiences and provide support for family, partners and those affected by a or in a relationship with an alcoholic (whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not).
HIV / AIDSAnlaids Onlus, a national not-for-profit association founded to support HIV-positive people and their families, has a regional branch in Umbria.
The Instituto Superiore di Sanita's Centro Nazionale AIDS (National AIDS Centre) operates a free AIDS helpline with support in English.
Spazio Bianco is a non-profit organisation founded in 1992 to offer free support to those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Spazio Bianco voluntters assist with home care, medical advice, help prepare and submit pension/disability paperwork, accompany people to medical visits as well as work to educate the public about the disease.
Smoking AddictionFumo.it is a website with resources and information for smokers who want to stop smoking.
Drug AbuseNarcotics Anonymous (Narcotici Anonimi) is a support group for people with drug problems. All that is required to join is a desire to stop taking drugs. There are meetings in Terni on Mondays and Fridays.

Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori (LILT) is an Italian association providing help and medical care to people affected by cancer.
Europa Donna is a European organisation (with a branch in Umbria) for women with breast cancer. It campaigns for better screening and provides support for women with the disease.
Europa Uomo is an organisation that raises awareness about early diagnosis and treatment options for men with prostate cancer.
HomelessnessCaritas is a support and charity group for homeless people and people in difficulty.
The Catholic organisation operates help centres (centri d'ascolto) that provide counselling for marginalised persons and support for those who are serving prison sentences.
Gay & LesbianArcigay is an Italian gay rights organisation that is open to everybody, both homosexuals and heterosexuals. It promotes the welfare of homosexuals and also campaigns to raise awareness of AIDS and HIV prevention.
SamaritansThe Samaritans Onlus have a toll-free, Crisis Intervention Hotline available for those feeling depressed or distressed, especially those feeling suicidal. The Italian-language helpline is open 13:00-22:00 daily.
